A poetry study I created for my kids about one of my favourite Australian birds. The Blue Wren, by C J Dennis is a sweet poem that depicts God’s creativity and care when creating this beautiful little bird. My youngest daughter began schooling with us at the end of this year so I created this kit a little differently and included handicrafts instead of picture study to make it fun for her.

I am an Australian homeschool Mama and love including as many Australian classic and modern artists, poets, authors, and musicians as possible. Without finding many options for Australian copy work (without needing to subscribe or buy a complete curriculum first) I decided to create it myself for my kids. I wanted to share it with you and hope it’s enjoyable for your family too.

– 3 different layouts. Text and lines on separate pages, text on the top – lines on the bottom, “note-booking style” with text to trace and blank on the bottom for free copying or illustrations. Why? Because if your kids are like mine, they prefer different ways.

– Appendix with some short information on the poet and artist. Links to relevant youtube videos to extend learning.

– A Handicraft with full instructions on how to make a little bird out of recycled materials.

– Perfect fit for Australian and NSW curriculums. Subjects it is suitable for are English, History, Geography, and Art. If in NSW suitable for Stages 1-4.
