Academic Writing and Speaking – Adult ESL – Topic based Lesson – Environment

This is an Upper Intermediate (CFER level B2 or C1) writing and speaking lesson on the topic of the environment.

The skills taught in this lesson are based on the requirements of the speaking and writing components of the IELTS exam, but the lesson is also appropriate for any Intermediate/Upper Intermediate classes especially those with an academic fous.

The skills taught include:

• Vocabulary extension
• Structure of a problem/solution essay
• Planning and writing an essay
• Answering a range of questions related to the topic of the enviroment
• Preparing and presenting a one-minute talk.

The speaking activities comprise of 3 different Speaking Activities: Tasks cards are available for all 3 activities

• Answering simple short answer questions (comparable to IELTS Speaking part 1)
• Answering complex questions (comparable to IELTS Speaking part 3)
• One-minute talks on a given topic related to technology (comparable to IELTS task 2)

All of these are presented as pair work activities providing relevant and meaningful speaking practice for ALL students as well as IELTS students.
