Acknowledgement of Country | Editable for the name of the Traditional Custodians
FREE
Educators are in such a powerful position to help enact a vision of reconciliation across our country by informing students about the culture and significance of our nation’s First Peoples.
There are six different borders for you to choose from to ensure it suits your classroom. The name of the Traditional Custodians is editable to acknowledge the land on which your school community meets.
An acknowledgement of country can be performed when an aboriginal elder is not available to perform a Welcome to Country. Acknowledgment of Country can be conducted by anyone (children or adults) who wishes to pay their respect to the Traditional Owners of the land on which the event or meeting is taking place.
In a school setting occasions to Acknowledge Country are: assembly, meetings, at the start of class, school council meetings and parent information sessions.
A simple way to explain to younger students what an Acknowledgement of Country means: it’s as though you are a guest at someone else’s house and you say ‘thank you for having me’.
All state and territory education departments have further informatio’n and examples to help the vision of valuing, acknowledging and respecting the Traditional Owners of the land in which we learn and work. I encourage all teachers to enact this vision. Therefore you can download an acknowledgement of country here for your classroom or all classrooms in your school for FREE.
The name of the Traditonal Owner groups is editable so you can find out where your school meets and insert the correct name.
