Looking for an interactive and fun SCIENCE vocabulary activity that gets students up and moving while learning about the adaptation of living things? This Science Vocabulary Hunt Gallery Walk is the perfect solution! Designed to support understanding of key terms related to understanding how particular structural features and behaviours of living things enable their survival in specific habitats, this activity encourages movement and collaboration in the classroom.
Ideal as a front-loading task, this activity helps Year 5 students build essential Science vocabulary aligned with your Australian Science Biology Unit. It’s a fantastic way to engage learners, deepen their understanding of adaptations of living things, and support vocabulary development through active learning.
 
Vocabulary words include- habitat, adaptation, structural feature, camouflage, predator, prey, pollination, migration, insulation and photosynthesis.

Students will work individually (or in pairs) and get moving around the classroom to do a gallery walk. A friendly competition always increases engagement, so perhaps set a timer. This activity can also be used for unit reviews, casual supply teacher plans, extension activities, early-finishers, or just for fun on the day before break.
