Adult ESL/EAL Beginners – All About ME

This speaking and writing lesson is designed for a mixed ability Adult ESL Beginners lesson. These activities are great for starting a new year or term Back to School) because:

• They help students to get to know each other
• They help you to get the know the students and also assess their level of English

But they also work at other times of the year too and are a great way to get students talking. So, if you don’t use them all you can keep them for later.

The first 2 activities make good simple diagnostic tools if you need to work levels quickly before planning your lessons.

As Beginners ESL classes tend to be multi level, there are several levels within this resource. With scaffolding and dictionaries the activities can be made accessible to most beginners, while extending some more able students. Suggestions for each are included in the teachers notes.

What’s included:

• 5 integrated speaking and writing activities on the theme of All About Me
• detailed teachers notes with ideas and suggestions for extending and simplifying each activity to suit the needs/level of your learners
• 2 different versions of 2 of the activities to accommodate UK/Australian and US spelling differences, which could be confusing to students at this level

Like all my resources, this lesson is designed specifically for adults. It incorporates the principles of adult learning, uses language that adults will need to use and situations that are relevant to adult learners.
