Ensure Student Understanding with This Fun, Text-Based Escape Room Challenge!

All questions in this activity are directly based on the provided reading passages—making it a great front-loading task to introduce vocabulary and content you’ll be covering in your unit. While the reading passages are optional, they offer valuable context and background knowledge. No prior knowledge is needed, making this activity accessible for all learners.

Students can work individually or in pairs and race to complete all four challenges. With a bit of friendly competition and a mix of movement, problem-solving, and reading, engagement is sure to soar!

Students will answer 16 multiple-choice questions using the information from the text. Each correct answer helps reveal a number clue, leading to a final 4-digit ALPHA code.

How It Works:

1. Print a Recording Sheet for each student (two per page—cut them in half).
2. Print and cut the four decoders in half, then hang them around the room.
3. Choose your setup:

• Hang all 16 individual task cards around the room, or
• Keep it simple by displaying 4 cards per level next to each decoder.

4. Let students know how many minutes they have to complete each level and crack the final code.

5. That’s it! Watch your students dive into this active, self-directed learning experience.
