Back to School Would You Rather?

These “Would you rather” questions have a Back to School theme and prompt students to think critically and evaluate between choices. This activity alerts students, in the first weeks, that you expect thinking, decision-making and justification, in your class.
These questions help everyone get to know each other at the beginning of the year and should encourage critical thinking and discussion.
The resource includes:
- 54 cards
- 2 graphic organisers to display thinking
- a recording sheet for the cards
I always ask for discussion and justification for the final decision.
These can be used as time-fillers, if you have some to spare; prompts for group discussions; debate topics; writing starters; impromptu speech topics etc
Students seem to enjoy the “choice” aspect and develop great debating, critical thinking and speaking skills.
They can also be an activity for your literacy centre.
Copy and give to students if you’re using the cards for a writing or debating task. It helps them organise their thoughts.
