This roll-a-sentence activity supports students in building sentence structure while using their imagination. This is an enjoyable and entertaining task for students in 1st-3rd grade, inspired by Colourful Semantics. The worksheets use the colour-coordinated parts of speech to formulate silly sentences after rolling a dice.

There are 2 roll-a-sentence pages:

Level 1: who, describe, doing, where
Level 2: (optional) what, when, how, to who

After rolling, students can then write their sentences. There are differentiated writing pages with dotted third lines for this. To support enabling writers, there is a cut-and-paste option to build the sentence using the words available. Alternatively, this cut-and-paste task can be used as an extra activity or a fast-finisher option. Students will love the silly combinations that their sentences create!

Once students have completed the writing component of this task, your young learners can enjoy the sentence-building activities.
