CREATIVE WRITING – THE EXPERIENCE OF WW1

Note (Levelled Worksheets):
* Level 1 (yellow) = includes extra scaffolding, sentence starters, visuals and more simplified wording of questions.
* Level 2 (blue) = some scaffolding sometimes, “middle/generic” worksheet.
*Level 3 (red) = students who feel confident, would like a challenge and are aiming for an A Grade. Minimal scaffolding and the opportunity for students to “creatively interpret” concepts they’ve learned.

Directions:

  • Look at the images of WW1 on the slideshow and discuss to students what it would have been like to experience this.
  • Introduce/reintroduce the concept of showing, not telling in writing.
  • Slides will direct you through different strategies students can use to show, not tell. This includes techniques that can be used and how to take writing that is ‘showing’ and make it ‘tell’.
  • The Levelled worksheets have creative writing instructions where students have the chance to take an image and write a short story/description of what it would have been like to be fighting in the war.
  • Students will recieved a different level of scaffold depending on which worksheet they choose to complete.
