Digraph Games – 18 PowerPoint Games with Examples of Digraphs in Sentences

$5.50

Digraph Games – 18 Interactive PowerPoint Files

This bundle includes 18 Wheel of Fortune inspired games with examples of different types of digraph words in sentences. When playing these digraph games, students must choose one letter at a time to help guess the sentences (and digraphs) that are written behind the highlighted tiles. When the game is finished, the teacher can click on the information button to circle the digraphs on the screen and confirm whether or not the students’ guesses are correct.

Instructions on how to use these games are included (it’s very easy) along with a “Digraph Games List” that displays the following digraph sentences from each separate game. A printable list of additional activity ideas (shown below) that can be used with these games has also been included.

These games are not grade-specific and have been used with primary students across different grade levels. They have also been used with special education students.

Digraph Games: Additional Activity Ideas

1. Incorporate some numeracy into the games by giving points to each team/student for every correct letter. You could give more points for less common letters (e.g. x or z) and less points for more common letters (e.g. e, a or t).

2. Use the games to have a tournament over different days/weeks where you only play one game (or one set of games) at a time. Students can keep record of, and tally up their scores.

3. Get students to list as many other words as they can with the same letters/sounds as those in the game sentence.

4. Get students to create and write their own sentences with words that have the same letters/sounds as those in the game sentence.

5. Get students to create “tongue twisters” with the letters/sounds in the game sentence (you can tie this concept in with alliteration if you’re teaching figurative language).

6. Get students to create a poster, diorama (or any other type of art project) that focuses on a set of words with the same letters/sounds.

7. Ask students if they can identify any other digraphs with different letters/sounds in the game sentence.

8. Get students to identify different parts of the sentence (e.g. the subject and verb), and to discuss whether it is a simple, compound or complex sentence.

9. Get students to look for interesting synonyms that they could use to replace words in the sentences and make them more interesting.

10. Get students to alter the entire meaning of a sentence by replacing a single word with a new word.
