ESCAPE ROOM:Reading Comprehension, Print & Go, SPACE THEME, Grade 6

The SPACE THEME Escape Room will take students on a secret mission around the classroom reading a comprehension passage, answering questions and deciphering codes! This Print and Go Escape Room has students decode interesting facts about Space and Earth’s Movement.Watch student engagement SOAR when they participate in this escape room. The ULTIMATE GOAL is to practise close reading skills with a TWIST OF FUN by reading and rereading a passage numerous times to seek answers and validate choices.

Students will be using a reading comprehension passage, comprehension skills, secret codes, movement, citing evidence within a text and critical thinking! This Escape Room challenge encourages students to learn interesting facts about Earth’s Movement in Space, with a focus on the areas of understanding the Earth’s movements and how this affects the changing of seasons, day length, and the observable patterns of nature. Everything a teacher dreams of wrapped up into one FUN and engaging activity!

To ensure understanding of the subject matter, students will answer questions that can be found directly in their reading passage. No prior knowledge is needed. This is a great front-loading activity that allows students to get some facts while previewing key vocabulary words and content, that you will teach throughout your unit.

Students will work in pairs (or individually) and can race to complete all 4 challenges. A friendly competition always increases engagement. Students will read the informational text, answer questions and reveal number clues, which ultimately lead to a final 4-digit ALPHA code.

How it works:

Challenge 1: Make a Match

Students will match words with their definitions to unscramble a mystery word and reveal a “number” clue.

Challenge 2: Adding Truths

Students read statements and determine if it is true or false (using the reading passage). Students ADD all the TRUE values to find the next “number’ clue.

Challenge 3: Missing Letters

Students answer multiple choice questions (that can be found in the text) and reveal the next “number” clue.

Challenge 4: Which Paragraph?

Students determine which paragraph, a range of statements from the text can be found to locate the final “number” clue.
