Why use number accordions? For some children, expanded form is tricky and so often we turn it into dry and boring – but no more! We know how important it is for children to understand place value, so let’s give them tools that are both helpful and fun. This handy little tool helps children build confidence moving from standard form to expanded for or back the other way – expanded form to standard form! Better yet, with just a couple of bits of sticky tape (clear plastic tape), this little gem can become a reusable tool for students to use over and over again. I love putting these in my maths centres with a couple of whiteboard markers to give students that little bit of extra confidence to work independently as they move to exploring place value with bigger numbers.
