Expanded Form Number Stacking Cards (great for place value practice!)

This is an easy to prep activity that is useful at all levels both for classroom teaching and intervention (especially intervention with upper primary students). Every teacher from foundation to year 6 should have a set of these in their cupboard. Not only do they show students expanded form and can be used to help children write and self-correct expanded form sums, they are great for decomposing numbers and discussing place value. With rainbow colours they are inviting for children to play and I found leaving a set in a nice tub works great as a morning entry activity. Children are simply drawn to exploring numbers over and over again.

Hot tip: print it on card instead of laminating. With all straight cuts on the guillotine, you can have this handy resource made in a matter of minutes.
