Paperclip Counting Interactive Wall Display
$3.00
Do your students struggle with place value?
Do they really understand what ones, tens and hundreds mean?
Do you have a daily number routine that students dread?
Look no further – with this one simple activity you can address all these problems. This is a simple whole class daily activity that students love. The download will show you how to create an easy interactive wall display where students use paperclips to create chains of ones, tens and hundreds to count to 1000. Each day every student adds on one paperclip. I get the students to guess how many days it will take to reach 1000 before we start and each day they want to come see how many days we’ve done and how close they are. The perfect thing about this activity is it starts easy – you start at zero and work through two-digit numbers and gets harder as the students’ understanding of place value progresses – it grows with the students‘ understanding. I’ve used this in year 1, 2 and 3 and each time I find that the daily repetition helps consolidate learning while building understanding in those who previously really struggled.
You will get:
5 different coloured versions
Black and white version to copy onto any coloured paper so you can match your class theme
Instructions for how to make the display
Instructions for using the display
BONUS: An editable PPT copy of the student guess chart for if you want to type your students’ names in
Please note: to create the display you will need to provide a piece of backing card and paperclips.
