PERSONAL SAFETY LESSON & CRAFT – Support Identity Belonging – Counseling Lesson

How do you help students identify their support system in a safe, strengths-based, and trauma-informed way – without forcing disclosure or focusing on problems? Our Support System Garden Lesson is a creative counseling resource designed to help children and young people explore who and what supports them, while emphasizing safety, connection, and choice.

Through art-based expression and guided reflection, students learn that support can come from people, places, routines, and tools – and that having support is both normal and empowering. This lesson is ideal for school counseling sessions, small groups, wellbeing lessons, SEL instruction, and trauma-informed classrooms. By focusing on growth, care, and emotional safety rather than challenges or deficits, this resource supports emotional regulation, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
