Principles of Assessment – A Sass Education Resource is an informational product on effective principles of assessment in education. It is applicable to mainly primary and secondary teaching contexts across most subject areas, especially those that assess analysis, communication, synthesis, problem solving and critical thinking. In principle, it is also applicable to tertiary education.

The theory that underpins this resource has been much tested and represents best practice in assessment. It draws together the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of assessment approaches with explicit explanations and examples to illustrate key concepts.

This resource will demystify the complexities of assessment. It can be used by individual teachers (please download individually), can also be used as a resource for professional development or be used as guiding principles for moderation to make sure everyone is on the same page!
