Thisย reference fan holds explanations of common punctuation: they are like mini posters, that act as reminders and reference support during literacy centresย or groups. This helps studentsย work independently, without interruptingย teaching moments. The children love the novelty of fans, and use often.

- These are great resources for students to have on desks or in folders forย reference,ย until they understand the concepts. When they areย editing their writing, they can use this fan for help and knowledge.ย Should this be a comma or a semi-colon?The fan isย printed, laminated and held together with a split pin, so you can include all or as many of the blades as you wish. As you teach and discuss each feature, you can add those blades, or choose according to the skills and ability of individual children. The fans close up into a tidy stack.Make several for the class or mostย students can make their own, as a craft activity.ย Print, laminated, punch holes and assemble with split pin or ring.
All fans don’t have to be the same;ย differentiate by giving students the blades you think they need. So if you haven’t discussed Ellipsis yet, leave that blade until later.
