I have tried this in my own class as a literacy rotation activity and I think the simple fact that students have hands on learning tools (and it’s a game) makes it more engaging. I find that reading the words alone makes them zip through the activity; however, getting them to use the writing mat helps them stay engaged for longer. I also use foam dice (trust me, it will save your ears).
