Year 11 Data Project – Body Ratios

As part of the new study design for VCE General Mathematics Units 1 – 4 students will be exposed to completing a project in both Units 1 and 2. This project will explore the use of Bivariate Data to make a prediction. Students will be first given a scaffolding task to complete before collecting their own data. From the data sets collected student’s must decide which would be the most appropriate data set to use and from this find the least squares regression equation to form their prediction. This is a very practical activity which explores the use of a graphing calculator to make a scatterplot, finding the value of ‘r’ -Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient and finally making a prediction from an equation.
