Australia Day Reading Writing Activity – CHANGE THE DATE DEBATE

Australia Day’s date is a controversial topic here in Australia, which makes it the perfect issue to use in any grade 6-9 classroom. Analysing Argument is a key English Language and Humanities skill, and this is a great way to collect an understanding of what your students can do at the beginning of the year.
This activity uses “Letter to the editor” format to provide two sides of the debate and gives an opportunity for students to write their own response.
