FREE Homework Reading Record Challenge

As educators, we know that students who read at night time improve with literacy and understanding of language concepts faster than those that don’t. However it’s not always easy when parents are busy working, or the students are tired at the end of the day.

Often my generic reading record would be empty when I checked it each Friday with students simply saying ‘I forgot’ or “I was busy’.

After introducing this new way of thinking with homework reading last year, a high number of my students began reading each night. They told me that the switch was that they wanted to complete the challenge and get to the end of the gameboard! This page is simply glued into the front of their homework book or inside a reading folder and after reading each night, a space is colored in.

I have intentionally made 2 styles – 15 minutes and 20 minutes depending on the expectations for the amount of time to read. I have also duplicated the pages to cater for color/colour with US and AU/UK spelling.
