Phonological Awarenessย is the ability to recognise that spoken words are made up of individual sound parts. In the Get Ready For Reading – A Sounds Activity Book children are introduced to phonemic awareness activities including phoneme introduction, phoneme isolation and phoneme blending / segmenting.
The activity book follows a systematic approach and introduced children to all phonemes in the initial code.
Phoneme Introduction – Children have to make the grapheme for the letter using playdough, draw a picture of something that begins with the phoneme and put pom poms on the picture that begins with the phoneme. Speech articulation pictures are also included to develop the correct pronunciation of the phoneme.
Phoneme Isolation – Children have to match the pictures to the phoneme that it begins with.
Phoneme Blending/Segmenting – Children use playdough and pom poms to practice blending /segmenting each word.
