New Year’s Eve – 5 Math and 5 Writing Tasks

Teach how to count back in time, explore clocks and record tasks you might do on New Year’s Eve with this pack.

Mathematics Tasks

• Arrange numbers 0-12 forward and backward. This will help to determine whether they will be able to read the clock numbers
• Draw and then make a clock
• Put times in sequence from 1pm to midnight – match to written times
• Match analog/analogue to digital times for o’clocks and half pasts
• Sequence tasks we might do on New Year’s Eve

English Tasks

• Alphabet Key, write words or phrases to describe New Year’s Eve
• New Year’s Resolutions – record them and keep them safe and read them next year
• Shopping List for a party you are designing
• Write a letter to iInvite your family and friends to a party
• Recount of what you did on New Year’s Day or New Year’s Eve

Goal Setting for the New Year

The beginning of a new year is a great time to set new goals and map out what the year will bring. Use the banner and mobile ideas to motivate your students to set realistic and achievable goals. Record them in a booklet to keep and reflect on as the year continues.

There are detailed instructions at the start of each section.

Reflections for the last year

• This page will help to record three highlights for last year

• You can then celebrate these milestones and build on them for this year

• Great for display, color them and display

• The first pennant can be copied and glued on the back of each one for each student

All About Me

• There are two versions for favourite/favorite and colour/color

• Add the information and then display or place into a class book to help to get to know one another

• With different fonts

• Record what you would like to be – what you would like to be able to do – would like to do – would like to see

Make a Mobile

• Choose the yellow or the white headings

• Write comments for each one and then attach them together by using string to hang in the classroom. Use the circle mark to place holes for hanging

• There is a blank page for goals you may want to include

• Cut in half to make two books
