This real world personal financial literacy math project with the theme SHOP UP A STORM, involves students going on a shopping spree whilst investigating money, budgeting and percentage discounts.

Students will be engaged and enjoy using numeracy in a real life situation. It has been designed for students in grades 3 to 6. Now suitable for home and distance learning with PDF and Google slides.

THE PERFECT WAY TO GET STUDENTS INTERESTED IN MATH!

The projects are easy to follow and can either be teacher run or student driven. Each math project is designed to run between 3-5 lessons depending on how much time you wish to allocate to the tasks.

In Shopping up a Storm students go ‘shopping’ using catalogues and Internet searches to find items to buy. Students are given a set budget, BUT they have the added bonus of being able to apply set percentage discounts to items of their choice. Students are then required to work out the new price of the product.
