Real World Projects | Division and Fractions Math PBL | Inquiry Based Math

This real world mini math project with the theme DINE AT MINE, involves students to plan a dinner party/ meal whilst investigating division and fractions to ensure they have the correct quantity of food. Students will be engaged and enjoy using numeracy in a real life situation. It has been designed for students in grades 4 to 7. Now suitable for home and distance learning with PDF and Google slides.

The projects are easy to follow and can either be teacher run or student driven. Each math project is designed to run between 3-5 lessons depending on how much time you wish to allocate to the tasks.

Students explore the use of fractions and measurement to plan a party. They need to plan for one person and then create a meal plan for either 2, 4 or 6 people. This involves students needing to change and manage the fraction of each recipe to cater for the correct number of people. Students love having choice over the theme of their dinner and choosing recipes.
