These Long O Word Family Flash Cards are an excellent way to teach explicit phonics skills and develop phonemic awareness. Containing 104 words paired with an image, these flashcards will help your students overcome the challenging concept that sounds in words are represented in many different ways and easily learn 9 different ways the Long O sound can be spelled. All of the words are contained in the included original phonics story providing context and meaning.

Included in this resource are several words such as ‘so’, ‘those’, ‘though’ etc that are often taught separately as ‘sight’ words and disconnected to regular spelling and phonics activities. However, like every word in the English language they can be segmented into individual sounds, with each sound represented by letter combinations. Therefore these words are included, as even if they are unusual they can still be ‘sounded out’ using the same process as ‘regular’ words!
