Mini Math Investigations Worksheets | Volume and Capacity Tasks and Activities

Looking for volume and capacity worksheets to provide practice opportunities for your students? These Mini Math investigations have been designed to be completed by teachers that have limited time. They are quick and easy to set up and engage 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders. The capacity and volume tasks and activities provide FUN learning opportunities for students to use their maths in hands on experience .

Each activity/ task includes an “I can” statement for the students to know what they need to achieve. They also have a highlight and go teacher assessment at the bottom of the page, allowing teachers to be able to quickly see where each student is at with a glance.

THIS RESOURCE INCLUDES:

• Order 5 items or more from smallest to largest
• How can you find the volume of a box using only a ruler?
• Can you find items that hold less than one litre (liter) of liquid?
• Liquid gold, make a special potion.

** Suitable for both USA and UK/ AUS classroom. Where the words ‘litre’ and ‘colour’ have been used, an additional sheet has been provided with ‘liter’ and ‘color’. **

THESE TASKS CAN BE COMPLETED IN MANY WAYS, INCLUDING:

• Used at the start of a unit of work to look at student’s prior knowledge.
• Math centers (maths centres)
• Group work
• For fast finishers
• At the end of a unit of work to assess if students are able to transfer the skills learned during instructional time.
• Fun projects for students to complete for homework.
