Ways To Start Sentences – Sentence Starting Posters, Worksheets, & Visuals

Help students start sentences and write different types of sentences using different sentence starting methods. They will learn to switch between writing simple and complex sentencesand make their writing more varied and interesting. Reluctant writers will benefit because this will help to reduce their cognitive load when working out how to begin sentences.

• Six posters – each one shows a different way to begin sentences, includes a tip on how to write them, and shows four example sentences.
• Six worksheets with picture prompts – each sheet is focused on one of the posters and sentence beginning strategies.
• Six worksheets without picture prompts to allow for more open-ended and independent sentence writing practice
• A page to photocopy that has visual aids for three students. Once these are copied and cut each student will have a visual aid that is the size of a third of a page. It has miniature version of the six poster on it so that children can have it with them while they are writing to help them start their sentences in a variety of more interesting ways.
• Five sheets, each with a different picture prompt, with writing lines to write a sentence beginning with each of the six sentence starters.
